Prefab House of the Year 2026
The main goal of the factory-built timber house competition is to showcase wood as a versatile building material and to highlight the possibilities of factory-based construction, while recognising the best Estonian timber house manufacturers and the buildings they produce.
Entries must be factory-produced timber houses that have been completed and accepted by the client between 2023 and 2026. Each entry must meet three criteria:
– The main structure of the building or façade element must be made of wood;
– The structure must be prefabricated under factory conditions;
– An Estonian company (the competition entrant) must have maintained control over the engineering, production and construction of the entry.
The jury includes representatives from architecture, engineering and journalism in Estonia. This year, entries will be evaluated by an expanded jury, which also includes international experts from Germany, the Netherlands and South Korea.
Over the years, more than 300 different entries from various countries — including Japan and South Korea — have taken part in the competition. Last year, the jury named Kodumaja AS the overall winner and best apartment building for their 7-storey fully timber-framed modular apartment building in Norway.
