Estonia showcased timber construction leadership in Berlin

In Berlin (17th September 2024) The Estonian Embassy in Berlin hosted an event titled “Estonia as a Leader in Timber Construction: Modular Building, Serial Renovation, and Wooden Facades” highlighting Estonia’s innovative approaches in the wood construction sector. The event emphasized Estonia’s position as a pioneer in sustainable building solutions, a key export industry, accounting for 20% of the country’s exports to Germany.

The event featured presentations from industry experts including Annika Kadaja (Woodhouse Estonia), Alo Tamm (Harmet OÜ), Martin Talts (KMT Prefab OÜ), Mirko Paul (Thermory), and Kaarel Väer (MATEK AS), who showcased the latest technological advancements in modular building and serial renovation using timber constructions.

During a panel discussion, representatives from the Estonian wood construction sector, alongside German experts such as Uwe Bigalke (German Energy Agency, dena) and Knut Hoeller from the Housing Initiative for Eastern Europe (IWO), discussed future trends and challenges in the industry. The event, moderated by Martin Schuy (Sustainabuilt), provided a platform for in-depth dialogue on sustainable construction practices.

The event also celebrated Estonia’s growing presence in the German market, with Estonian wooden house manufacturers recognized for their high level of prefabrication and adaptability to diverse market demands.

The event underlined Estonia’s commitment to innovation in sustainable construction, setting the stage for stronger collaboration between Estonian and German companies in the timber construction industry. Participants were encouraged to continue the conversation at the upcoming BAU Trade Fair in Munich, where several Estonian companies will be presenting their expertise in wood construction.
