Estonian Mycology Research Centre Foundation
The Estonian Mycology Research Center SA (EMÜK) has been engaged in studies of fungi and wood-damaging insects in buildings for over 20 years. The most important area of research is wood-decaying fungi, i.e. the preservation of wood in buildings. In this field, EMÜK has helped thousands of owners of wooden buildings and structures in Estonia and has been involved in the prevention of wood decay for a long time. From 2007, mold studies were added, focusing on the microbiological parameters of the indoor climate. In the years 2011-2013, EMÜK was a partner of the international Interreg IVA project “Fungal and insect damage to wood in Baltic Sea islands and coastal buildings”. In the course of the project, research was carried out in wooden buildings in Sweden, Finland and Estonia, and three educational films on the preservation and conservation of wood were produced. The EMÜK database contains over ten thousand analyzes of air samples of molds and thousands of studies of wood-decomposing fungi.
Estonian Mycology Research Centre Foundation offers the following services:
- Inspection and laboratory analysis of mould or microscopic fungi. Health risk assessment of microscopic fungi according to species and quantities.
- Inspection of dry rot (incl. Serpula lacrymans). Development of recommended actions for dry rot elimination, restoration work and fungi prevention.
- Identification of fungal species using microscopic analysis.
Our strength lies in scientific cooperation with the European Union research institutions, which ensures top-level training for our specialists.
